Contact Fund Co-Hosts ‘Sold-Out’ Event with Association of Small Foundations

Wednesday, June 23

Twenty-one guests from a range of New York City-based professional and family foundations, wealth and philanthropic advisors and leading community development financial institutions enjoyed lunch and a lively panel discussion entitled, “Mission Related Investing: From Ideas to Implementation”. This inaugural event, co-hosted with the Association of Small Foundations and Philanthropy New York, had a waiting list in the double-digits. Different from other industry gatherings, this panel focused on the practical issues involved in executing a mission/program related investing strategy.   Held at The Clark Foundation, the event was masterfully moderated by the Foundation’s Executive Director and mission related investment advocate and expert, Doug Bauer.

Panelists included David Berkowitz of the Helen and William Mazer Foundation, who shared his  family foundation’s direct experience making mission related investments. He was joined by Contact Fund’s Mark Reed and Linda Levy, Executive Director of the Lower East Side Peoples Federal Credit Union.  Kristin Giantris of the Nonprofit Finance Fund provided insights and expertise about ways in which mission/program related investments are supporting microfinance, small business development and affordable housing  in New York City.

Among the family and professional foundations in attendance were industry pioneers FB Heron and Rockefeller Foundations, who were called upon to share their perspective based on years of experience in mission-related investing.
